CAAB Report 145

Tuesday 14 December 2004

After last week's decision by Harrogate Magistrates not to impose further severe bail conditions on Lindis Percy, Richard Reed (solicitor) wrote to the Custody Sergeant at Harrogate Police Station.  He asked the Custody Sergeant not to be pursuaded by the Ministry of Defence Police Agency (MDPA) to impose more restrictive bail conditions  'through the back door' (see CAAB Report, 07.12.04).

This week Lindis was almost immediately warned not to obstruct the MDPA 'traffic officer'. She was told that she had been reported 'with a view to prosecution'. She was not 'reported' and neither was she cautioned. She was then arrested for allegedly 'obstructing an officer in the execution of his duty' and again detained at Harrogate police station. Once again the MDPA violence on arrest was disproportionate.

Jason Marchant (Custody Sergeant) said that Richard Reed's letter had been received. Lindis was later charged with the above offence and released with the same bail conditions.

Meanwhile at the demonstration the right to protest was maintained and there were no further arrests.
