CAAB Report 155

Tuesday 22 February 2005

There were two demonstrators (Anni Rainbow was unable to come) and once again a slightly different traffic arrangement was in place. Despite the frozen weather and intermittent snow, we had to ask the 'traffic' officer (PC 252) three times not to direct the traffic out of the base so fast as to be dangerous. The Ministry of Defence Police Agency always insist they are there for our safety.

Laila Packer was 'warned' by a Ministry of Defence Police Agency officer for allegedly 'obstructing the highway'.

Lindis Percy was 'warned' twice for allegedly obstructing the highway then suddenly arrested by a Ministry of Defence Police Agency officer for 'obstructing an officer in the execution of his duty'. She was not allowed to walk to the waiting police van and disproportionate force was used despite her repeatedly saying that she would walk.

The US upside down flag with the words 'You can't woo me, George and Condi' was snatched away and Lindis's property given to Laila. This was quite out of order. When asked why the flag had been seized Lindis was told by the arresting officer 'because it is a danger' and that 'you might wave it in custody'.  It was eventually retrieved and accompanied Lindis to Harrogate Police Station.

Lindis was charged with 'obstructing an officer in the execution of his duty'. No bail conditions were imposed by  Sergeant Hughes - Custody Sergeant - refer to previous CAAB Reports re bail conditions.

Last week, Lindis received two more summons concerning previous arrests during the CAAB Tuesday night demonstration. There are 26 cases in the courts (Anni has two cases), arising out of the same issue - the right to protest (legal authority Hirst and Agu v Chief Constable of West Yorkshire).

PLEASE NOTE:

Anni and Laila were unable to get to the CAAB demonstration last Tuesday night because of van problems.  Lindis was in the High Court London.  However 5 people (Sheffield and Pocklington) came.

There is a report on the Indymedia link with photos (thank you to Steve):  https://www1.indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/02/305359.html
