Ministry of Defence Police Agency apply for Anti-Social
Behaviour Order on peace campaigner
After a five day trial at Harrogate Magistrates' Court today (13 April
2005) District Judge Roy Anderson found Lindis Percy (Joint Co-ordinator
with Anni Rainbow of the Campaign for the Accountability of American
Bases) guilty of five offences arising out of the weekly demonstration
outside the American base at Menwith Hill. There were 32 cases
before him which included 2 cases against Anni Rainbow and 30 involving
Lindis Percy.
The District Judge acquitted Lindis Percy and Anni Rainbow of two offences
of 'obstructing the highway' and Lindis Percy of 'resisting arrest'.
Anni Rainbow was found guilty on a technicality of 'aggravated trespass'.
She was fined £60 and £60 costs.
Robert Moore (Crown Prosecutor) immediately made an application for an
Anti-Social Behaviour Order against Lindis Percy, to include a large
area of prohibition around Menwith Hill.
District Judge Anderson adjourned the case until 2 pm tomorrow (Thursday
14 April 2005) when the application will be heard.
Lindis Percy said "This is an intolerable and inappropriate use of
this Order".
