CAAB Report 200 |
1 December 2006
Harrogate Magistrates' Court - non-payment of fines and costs (refer to
CAAB website - CAAB report no 197)
At the hearing today and after careful discernment, Lindis Percy
declined to pay the fines and costs (£200) which were imposed on 21
September 2006 after a three day trial (two separate offences of
'obstruction of the highway' in January 2006) during the Tuesday evening
CAAB organised demonstration at the American base at Menwith Hill North
Yorkshire - refer to www.caab.org.uk
CAAB report no 197. She also declined to complete a 'means' form.
Lindis carefully outlined the reasons why she declined to fulfill the
sentence or complete a 'means' form. The Magistrates suspended
sentence for non-payment and said Lindis could pay £10 a week.
Judith Thomas (Chairwoman - Magistrate) reminded Lindis that it was an
offence not to complete a 'means' form. Lindis's position as a
matter of principal remains the same after the fiasco of the orginal
trial. She has always taken responsibility for any
fines/costs imposed over the years and maintains this wish. At
some stage Lindis will be summoned back to the court to explain again
why the fines/costs have not been paid.
Thank you so much to everyone who sent messages of support and to friends
who came to the court for the hearing.
